Friday June 18th
Basically we went shopping for our material and although slightly chaotic (not in a bad way, but exciting because everyone was like look at this, and that, and this) we got most our supplies.
I was slightly nervous for the weekend because the girls I’ve been attached to the hip for the week will be leaving to Fresno. Another group adopted me;) and I will be traveling to San Francisco with them for the weekend.
Thursday June 17th
There is continued work on our team project /lesson plan. The majority of my team is leaving for the weekend for father’s days so were trying to get as much done as possible. We have split up into “specialists” (air, food/water, navigation) we’ve pair each other up with partners and it is working out great.
Oh!!! I just found out this week that what I always assumed to be the wishing star (you know the one that is the first to be seen) is really Venus.
*I want to try the demonstration Kendia talked about. It you throw a magnet near/at a whiteboard the magnet with stick to board, this demonstrates that magnetic is stronger than gravity.
Accessing the Internet from the dorm rooms is a pain. But it’s very entertaining to see everyone sitting on the balcony walkway because that’s the only place it seems to work. (Slowly but it works)
Wednesday June 16th
There was a visit to the Astrobiology and life sciences laboratory. Very interesting to see all the gadgets used to purify water. I guess my quote today should really be “never say never.” Who would of thought that I would consider drinking my own pee, if need be.
Kendia had us construct an asteroid. Dry ice is absolutely amazing yet must be used with extreme caution. Because of this experiment I was able to understand the concept of sublimation!! Straight from liquid to gas
Individual achievement:
Apart from visualizing and understanding sublimation, we were able to find the laundry room. Apparently the area that it is locate in is known as zombie land. With caution signs warning us to stay out of the buildings that surround it, I wonder why we are still able to walk around. Asbestos are apparently to blame for the building abandonment but I’m wondering is it safe to be around them? I guess I’ll never know.
Delta Positives
Positives:
It was absolutely awesome to get to get free posters/resources at the NASA teacher resource room. Yes, I did say FREE. Great for when I finally get a classroom to decorate my wonderful walls and promote STEM.
What needs changed:
Need extensions of the above (the free resources) in Idaho. Is there anything similar?
Oh Snap!!!

Car pooling is great. Thanks to all the wonderful drivers who are willing (maybe forced) (I’m kidding) to drive us around. (Us being those with no vehicle)

Tuesday June 15th
Richard helped us navigate through the NASA website. Specifically showing us how there are AWESOME resources at the click of a button. There is plenty of material for educators and students as well. Felicia also informed us of the students we will be designing a lesson for. It’s very disappointing to hear that kids aren’t exposed to certain material. And then of course there was the presentation of our badges. Coming up with the badge took a bit of time but it was great and let us get to know the members of our team a bit more.♥
Individual achievement:
I’m proud of myself for stepping outside my comfort level, it’s very easy for me to just sit back and watch when opportunities to participate in certain things arise. Because of this I got to spin around on what I will call a spiny thingy and throw squeegee balls for Lorena to catch. Fun!!!!
Delta Positive
Positives:
We took a group picture and then we were able to explore on our own. We went to the visitor’s center and saw some neat stuff. I’m going back to the gift shop to buy some more things for my family, I did however buy some ice cream for my kids.
What needs changed:
So far so good, there’s nothing I can see that needs to be changed. But maybe we should walk to class vs. having Jessica drive. The walk is actually pretty nice and it wouldn’t hurt to get a little exercise, besides it’s only a few blocks away.
Oh Snap!!!

Go Golden Stardust!!!! We have a great team of diverse learners and teachers. I really enjoyed working on our badge the night before and am proud of our results
Coolest thing I learned/heard/saw today:
The visit to future flight central was neat. We were able to visit Mars and also saw an airport that doesn’t even exist yet in Las Vegas. Feels kind of special to see secret information ;) We also learned that the tire for a space shuttle is only used once for safety’s sake. Makes plenty of sense and is also one costly tire (can’t remember how much right now but I’m sure there is plenty of cash taking off to space)

Monday June 14th
Challenges of the day:
Today we were given a project that allowed our team to collaborate with one another. Each of us contributed in figuring out exactly how we would complete the mission. With six people, all of whom have creative ideas, that is something that is truly impressing. We also got to design a badge for our team. This was, yet again, another time where we could see how we can all have diverse ideas but once we put them together we come up with something that reflects us all.
Individual achievement:
Being here!!!
Delta Positive
Positives:
Everyone has plenty to share with one another and are willing to do so. We have great instructors and faculty that encourage us and make themselves available.
What needs changed:
Our indecisiveness as to what to eat and where.
Oh Snap!!!

Jessica H: Thank you, thank you, and thank you!!! Jessica is giving me rides all over the place♥
Jessica N: Did an awesome job with the data table.
Emily: Helped me a lot looking for images on the computer.
Marissa: Rescued our glitter☻
David: How nice, David brought in a projector for all to be able to watch movies☺
Coolest thing I learned/heard/saw today:
It’s really neat to see the enthusiasm the instructors have for their jobs. They make learning fun and are great models to look at for our future professions.
